Action Group was founded on notions of collective endeavour, with an increasingly collaborative approach to songwriting and development, and an unfixed designation of instruments meaning the music is created and owned by the group, not the individual.

Take It Appears on Hidden Door (Police Box 13) » Another melting pot of influences underpinned by trademark excellence in the basslines, and a unique talent for pointed nonchalance in the vocal delivery. Great use of piano and sparingly employed strings and samples. A treat! Log in to download tracks |

Breaking Windows Appears on Hidden Door 2 (The Police Box 15) » "'We were gonna play another song but we can't...' But then they did play another, and I'm glad they did. This track reminds me of all the best bits of the Pixies circa 1987." Frankie Lowe Log in to download tracks |
Action Group was formed in 2005 when, after years of lonely slog as solo artists, songwriters Mark Donnelly and Pete Boggon discovered a mutual affinity for one another’s musical tastes and talents, and decided to see where a collaboration would take them. Joined by core member Dylan Mitchell, the band saw a variety of personnel come and go before eventually finding drummer Adam Bond Thomson to complete the line up.
Songs written in bedrooms are torn apart and reworked in the practice room, and again transformed in the live show. This collaborative approach, and openness to ideas and discussion, is perhaps what makes Action Group’s influences so varied, and their sound so diverse and genre defying.
Their songs involve drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, synthesisers - moments of electronica crashing into snatches of sunny vocal harmony, rhythms crossing and changing - and the odd sample thrown in for good measure. Mystified by anything other than eclecticism, Action Group’s sound will undoubtedly continue to evolve.
October 2008 sees the band going back into the studio to record an EP of electronic/rhythm oriented stuff, which will be closely followed by an album proper, following on from their debut album Greed, recorded in 2007 on a shoestring but without compromise.
