Jamie, Rory, Dave, Andy, Arne, Ian and Gill formed Broken Records in December 2006 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Using a range of instruments they create a sound combining traditional European folk with modern Scottish alternative music.

Ever since they started the band have been busy, playing many gigs including live sessions on BBC Radio One in Scotland and BBC 6 Music, being voted Best of the T Break Stage at T in the Park, and headlining a sold-out show at the Liquid Room, Edinburgh. They have supported Idlewild, The Twilight Sad, Emma Pollock, and Peggy Sue and the Pirates.
Their self-released debut EP was sold at shows and created a wider interest in the band in the music industry and across the nation. Drowned in Sound said of the release, "This is magical, engrossing and wholly enveloping, genuinely and excitingly bursting with commercial potential. From beginning to end, this self-titled EP delights and amazes."
They also completed a Maida Vale session for UK Radio 1 (Huw Stephens), released the acclaimed 'If the News Makes You Sad Don't Watch it' limited edition 7" single with Young Turks and 'Slow Parade' limited 7" on the Fandango label. Their next 7" single, 'Lies' on Distiller Records, remains hotly anticipated.
In August they enlisted the help of friend Richard Poet (film editor) to make their first video for the 'Lies' single. His experience cutting The Dark Knight and Harry Potter movies et al has brought a new strength to the band's visual appeal.
With a number of festivals and much admired gigs including supports slots with The Futureheads, Editors, Sons & Daughters & The Twilight Sad completed in 2008, the band have expanded hugely on their live experience, and they are also currently making plans to record what promises to be an intriguing debut album.
