Two Steps Back Appears on Hidden Door 2 (The Police Box 15) » “David opened his set by saying that it was his first time playing with his baby boy in the audience. This lovely wee acoustic number accompanied by accordion and piano would have been a happy first gig memory for me as a young lad.” Frankie Lowe Log in to download tracks |
Following a early interest in music, playing guitar, drums and piano as a nipper, David Donnelly began playing with bands in the pubs and clubs of Glasgow from the age of sixteen. Having moved to Edinburgh aged 20 in 1990 he hooked up with legendary psychedelic hipsters 'Papas Magic Beard' and it was with this outfit of groovers and misfits that he to quote" first felt the funk". A flirtation with Latin rythyms led to forming his own project 'Freshly Squeezed' which in turn led to a collaberation with hip hop outfit 'One People'. The first vinyl releases came for 'Freshly Squeezed' (DATE) and along with origonal rocker Joe Malik and one time Proclaimers keysman Stevie Christie as the 'Outa'nationals' on the seminal Edinburgh compilation 'East coast Project' Further individual projects followed under the venerable tutelage of local legend Uncle Jack Findlay and soon David had the skills to establish himself as a producer in his own right. There followed invitations to tour and session with bands such as 'Salsa Celtica' and homegrown hip hop pro Finlay Quaye. Future projects include continuing a career as a producer of some renown and the remastering and eventual release of some seven LPs worth of back catalogue.
