Sown with tasteful proportions and instrumental variety, this track reaps beauty and dignity as its deserved rewards. It doesn't sound like electronic music, but it is.

Ochre Profile

Benbecula venture South over Hadrian's Wall once more to bring one of the most wonderfully written and melodic pieces of electronica to grace these shores.  Ochre aka Chris Leary, first came to the public's attention via his album for Toytronic in 2004 entitled "A Midsummer Nice Dream".  During that time and up until autumn 2005, he has offered a steady output of remix work and compilation appearances via the likes of Subvariant, Boltfish, Audiobulb, Igloo and Unschooled.

Where the Toytronic album was a "best of" collection of older recordings spanning a couple of years, the album "Lemodie" for Benbecula, is an especially commissioned body of work.

Benbecula once again embraces the advance of music within a medium. Rather than pushing the noise envelope via the technology available, Ochre expertly demonstrates that the most complex of compositions can be realised in a human and organic way via technology.

Reviews

"This leisurely follow-up is just as lush and expansive, but the good news is that close inspection reveals a welcome structural complexity ... In a word assured."

The Wire

"Rather than looping sections ad nauseum in the hope of creating decaying atmospheric tones, as many less accomplished artists resign themselves to doing, he sees the potential to twist his compositions, albeit with subtlety. Lemodie, therefore, boasts diversity as well as expert programming, and mixes elements that should appeal to all fans of electronic arts, regardless of their preferential sway."

Lost at Sea

"This is wonderfully written and melodic electronica that's just right for summer listening and utterly pleasurable, another winner for the rather good Benbecula label."

Warp

"... By and large it is a beautifully constructed piece that brings the worlds of classical and ambient music successfully together."

The Skinny

"Their blend of cinematic strings, lush melodies and crunchy, crispy beats holds true to the sort of Electronica that became synonymous with the likes of Boards OF Canada, PLaid and a whole host of other UK based acts. A delightful album that is as charming as it is pure."

Smallfish

"... his melodies are fresh and the production is all top-notch."

Gridface

" ... Musically created magnificence of images such as this doesn’t make Lemodie just a listen-friendly electronics album full of beautiful and intriguing melodies. Lemodie is a fantasy full of illusions that has common ground with the world as people experience it, but doesn’t seem to originate from it ... for enthusiasts the album is more beautiful and more expressive than a walk through a fairytale forest under the influence of hallucinogen."

KindaMuzik (translation here)

"The magic of Leary's music is based on beautiful melody - softness, secrets and sensuality"

Gaz-eta

"Decidedly one of the more promising English electronic authors of the moment!"
