Minutiae Appears on Benbecula Retrospective » What's essential about this track is its evident contribution to the techniques currently enjoyed by the likes of Warp signing Hudson Mohawke (discovered by Ten Tracks channel curators LuckyMe). Prhizzm (pron. "prism", and often incorrectly spelt as "phrizzm"), was born in 1982 in Ontario Canada. His musical skills were nurtured early where he learned to play violin and then piano, to the backdrop of his parents' record collection (the most popular rotation coming from the selected works of Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd).
His interest in computer and turntables arrived simultaneously resulting in experiments in DJing and mixing the formats together. After acquring a Roland synth, the first original compositions began to take shape albeit with no sequencing, resulting in ambient tracks. This arrangement was ditched in favour of midi based software and the start of the beat based adventures you now hear today. The acquisition of more synth and sampler hardware followed, building into the present array of machines that have moulded his debut EP, released on Benbecula Records.
To rewind a little, Prhizzm released self produced and manufactured EPs via his website, and was quickly noticed by those who received a copy. In March 2004 he was included on a compilation from Sheffield's Audiobulb imprint. In Spring 2005, his solo EP from Benbecula coincided with the release of the National Film Board of Canada Remix compilation, "-40", to be released on CD/DVD through c0c0s0l1dc1t1 records. Prhizzm has contributed an original soundtrack to the archive footage, alongside other Canadian artists such as Venetian Snares and Akufen. Meanwhile he continues to contribute the odd track to the very cool free net label Hippocamp.
