Wicker Basket Appears on The Police Box 2 » Dammit this is good. It's lo-fi and folky, very British and reminiscent of a number of greats... but it sounds like he could be in your living room, telling it to you like a friend. And in a sense, of course, he is. Log in to download tracks |

Rob St.John plays lo-fi, creaking and droning electric folk songs, aided and abetted by a long-term band of collaborators providing saw, cello,(Louise Martin), harmonium (Rob Waters), double bass (Emily Scott), autoharp (Bart Owl), drums (Owen Williams) and a whole host of other unconventional instrumentation. A native of the Lancashire hills, Rob and the band are currently based firmly within the blossoming Edinburgh DIY lo-fi scene and have been lucky enough to play shows with folk like Teenage Fanclub, King Creosote, Leafcutter John, Adrian Crowley, Diane Cluck, Woodpigeon, Jack Rose and Hush Arbors and more, alongside repeat appearances at the Fence Records Homegame festival. In January 2009 the band were named in The Skinny's "Ones to watch in 2009" list. As part of the Fife Kills: collective, the band regularly get involved with (tarnish) the likes of My Kappa Roots, Tisso Lake, eagleowl, The Wee Rogue, The Great Bear and all the rest.
"A fully functioning ensemble operating under the birth title of its song-writing vanguard, the sextet produces lilting folk compositions more brittle than a porcelain doll and just as expertly crafted. Live, RSJ are simply pulse-stopping. Rob's quivering intone coils around audiences like a wreath, whiles his cohorts (including members of local heroes eagleowl, Emily Scott, The Great Bear and Pineapple Chunks) tenderly orchestrate a graveyard of spellbinding, organic melody." - Billy Hamilton, The Scotsman
I love it
