Moon Song Appears on Optimo 1 » Dammit there's a lot of funk on here, and dammit it's good. Simultaneously hilarious and fascinating, Moon Song will delight you before you even get to the chorus. And then, then... You'll be over the moon. Log in to download tracks |
Since forming through necessity and a series of accidents in 1999, They Came From the Stars I Saw Them have passed through many incarnations from the sublime to the ridiculous, playing a one note song in 1/1 time for a whole month, releasing xmas disco records, 25 minute long prog epics, pop hooks and fucked-up masterpieces, caused the odd riot, started a few discos, several custard pie fights and played everywhere from toilets to the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Along the way they have picked up celebrity fans including Jarvis Cocker (who put them on at his Meltdown festival in June '07), The Flaming Lips, Spiritualized, Carl Craig and DFA head "honcho" James Murphy, whilst XFM's John Kennedy called them "visionaries" and "ahead of their time" in a recent article. They have been remixed by the likes of Emperor Machine, Nightmoves, The Chap and DFA's Holy Ghost, as well as Optimo.
Last years hooky '(it's always) Boomtime, part one' single saw a pop video featuring cameos from Autechre's Sean Booth and none other than Dexy's wild-hearted frontman Kevin Rowland spiriting the band to their next adventure in a helicopter.
Although there have been up to 25 members in the past, the band currently numbers four; they've honed their sound down to a big pop party that plays music for dancing and kissing, the likes of which it is safe to say you have never heard before.
The Stars are Giles Narang, Dan Hayhurst (aka Sculpture), Naomi Auerfeld and the super-animated, prodigiously quotable Horton Jupiter.
Their 3rd debut album was released in June 2008 entitled We Are All In The Gutter But Some Of Us Are Looking At They Came From The Stars I Saw Them and featuring the singles 'It's Time', 'The HOT Inc' and 'Moon Song'.
Wow! I wanna see them live!
