OK All,
New Edinburgh Music Venue The Electric Circus is really turning up the Heat for day 1 of Edinburgh's Notorious August, and we're as glad as they are that it's a Saturday - let the fun begin... Here's what the Circus have to say about the event (Ten Tracks contributors linked):
FOUND: "DIY folk quintet FOUND treat their songs like scientific art experiments, throwing in glitches and the clunks of random household objects. Their excellent second LP has strong hints of the Beta Band and Tunng, but singer Ziggy Campbell's discount-whisky croon is unmistakable" Dazed and Confused
DENT MAY:“ the melodies come defiantly from Dent’s beautiful singing voice. Throughout, he soars and towers above the arrangements, often straining at the upper limits of his range to wring out the utmost in emotional impact” Pitchfork
WHITE HEATH: "Beautiful cabaret cacophony" The List
ROB ST JOHN: ""The hushed reverence of Rob St John is a sound to behold. The Edinburgh based troubadour’s cerebral tones and stupefying sense of atmosphere is always breathtaking, and at best the purpose of adjoining strum and voice as one. Tingling neck-hairs with his slow-handed brilliance, St John’s knack for a tune is similar to local luminary James Yorkston, but there’s enough autumnal despair in his finger-plucked trinkets to suggest Messrs Drake and Buckley have had a hand in developing his wispy, evocative laments. Either way, Rob St John’s a remarkable, uncut diamond soon to be dug up." The Skinny
