Divorce Track Art 0

Pipe Down

Divorce

There's poetry in the lyrics here (albeit well disguised by banging punk rock). Recorded by Chris White of soon-to-come-on Ten Tracks Playdooh. Full LP out on June 29th on Optimo Music.

Sellotape Track Art 0

Nacho Eyes

Sellotape

A high energy, art punk jibe driven by a well layered musical arrangement. One of the lines seems to be 'you had too much Tennis last night', making this our Wimbledon anti-tribute.

Space System Track Art 0

Petik

Space System

Need we say staggering album art. If you like that, you'll like the harps and strange organic sounding synths in this one, evoking a feeling of the beyond. Calls to mind Susumu Yokota and Aphex Twin's prepared piano piece series. Must dig those out...

Gala Drop Track Art 0

Dabum

Gala Drop

One of a pair of more spacious, organic ambient works on this month's Optimo ten. Recorded and mixed by Guilherme Gonçalves at V5 Space & Black Box, Lisbon, 2007. Additional Mixing & Mastering by Rafael Toral at Noise Precision Mobile, Lisbon, 2008.

Argento 0

Milano Gospel

Argento

Passed on to Optimo HQ by a mysterious Albanian contact and friend of the artist with the message "distribute as you wish". So, here, for you is Milano Gospel.

Sam Smernicki 0

Circles

Sam Smernicki

Music that washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life

Cracks In The Concrete Track Art 0

The Ballad of Ashley Marie

Cracks In the Concrete

The whole of the Ballad of Ashley Marie feels like it was written by actual cracks in the concrete. Sounds intertwining behind Marcel Strauss' sewer-dwelling narration as if we're on a pavement passing different nightclubs on this darkest of walks home.

Site Specific SQ Art 0

Five Frames

Site Specific

Lo-fi Spectral rave. What this does not tell you is that the track develops through several subtle chord changes and melodies, building the esoteric adventuring tone through to the end.

KXP 180 0

180 Hours

KXP

My girlfriend thinks this tune, in 3 words, is: Chugging Industrial Techno Meets Jane's Addiction. Ten Tracks would like to add that there's a strawberry fieldsy mash up at the end. Tone-wise, maybe more of a mushroom fieldsy mash up come to think of it.

Sugar Experiment Station Track Art 0

Fractured

Sugar Experiment Station

'Fractured' is taken from the forthcoming new SES LP, forged with a fresh wave of enthusiasm, a new direction and the injection of some singing blood from Oper8tor and Danny Diamond.

Hello chaps and chapettes, just to let you know, the Sellotape track has been given the wrong title (for now at least), it's actually called 'Nacho Eyes'!

    hello,
that's the funniest thing i have ever read = ''too much tennis'', the lyrics are actually ''you had too much tennants last night'' but the tennis thing works too, slightly more classy ;)

Mishearing 'Nacho' as 'Macho' and then 'Tennents' as 'Tennis' got me thinking this was a topical critique of the character of Roger Federer. Glad you took it well Vicky... Now, can someone write another raucous tune which does actually has 'Tennis' in the lyrics? Then we could call it 'a Tennis Racket'.

The KXP track should be "18 Hours" (at least, based on the lyrics...) Someone tagged it ten times as much!
